Julian Operatic - Company Information
Julian
Light Operatic Society or JLOS is essentially a Gilbert and Sullivan
group and its 2010 production - Iolanthe - will be its 89th production since the first show (Iolanthe) in 1949.
The Julian remains dedicated to providing an opportunity for all
interested in singing and stage craft, whether as a hobby or as
a stepping stone to professional work, and to providing the local
community with the opportunity to experience light opera in traditional
style to as high a standard as possible and at a lower cost to that of the professional theatre. Current Director is Fraser Grant
- a professional with a wide range of experience in the musical
and straight theatre, both in the UK and overseas.
The
Julians policy is to cast principal parts from its own membership
as far as possible, and to give encouragement to beginners of any
age. The age range in the Society is wide, with some current new
members still at school, others have membership stretching back
to the 1960s. The support and enthusiasm of many members over
the years epitomises what the Julian is all about doing something
that is enjoyable as a relaxation, to a standard that others will
appreciate.
The Julian meets for rehearsals every Wednesday evening at Ealing
Town Hall (see
map).
One
main production usually in the autumn and one Soiree
or variety concert usually in the Spring are mounted per year.
The main production this year will again be staged at Questors Theatre,
Mattock Lane, Ealing (see
map).
The Company is self-financed through member's subscriptions and
fund-raising activites. It receives no money from arts organisations
and therefore is indebted to individuals who support the group through
its patron scheme. If you would like to offer financial assistance
either by becoming a patron or through official sponsorship please
contact the Secretary (details below).
New members are always welcome to join our Society,
either in a performing or supporting role. If you are interested,
please contact the Secretary (details below) or complete the application
form.
